REVIEW OF LACUNA COIL ALBUM “Broken Crown Halo”

Lacuna Coil is:
Andrea Ferro — lead vocals
Marco Coti Zelati — bass, keyboards
Cristina Scabbia — lead vocals
Marco “Maus” Biazzi — guitars
Ryan Blake Folden — drums

1.Nothing Stands in Our Way:

The opening song begins with a scream from the vocalist Andrea Ferro a sense of being dragged on a journey to a dark side.  Cristina’s vocals, which in the past might have softened the music, just increase the intensity and the energy. A heavy song, but this usual from Lacuna Coil.
RUNNING TIME :4:07
RATING: 7.
2. Zombies:
The track is a heavy, dark with power and energy with more growling from Andrea  and very good guitar solo .You think the lyrics are for Zombies? No they are about all us and how we live in these modern times .Very strong song!
RUNNING TIME :3:47
RATING: 8,5.
3. Hostage to the Light:
This song is very beautiful and give to us a sense from the older album “Comalies”Lacuna Coil know well to make a great song in running time of few minutes.Cristina voice is always very touching and powerful .
RUNNING TIME :3:56
RATING: 9.
4. Victims:
The song starts with some guitar melody and  Cristina enter and after  Andrea  join to sings a chorus about  about us, the victims of this today society.Totally dark song, strong with much anger and with a sense of rebellion. This is Lacuna Coil!
RUNNING TIME :4:31
RATING: 9.

5. Die & Rise :

Electric sound with the raw voice of Andrea and Cristina with other tone in fast tempo make a heavy number with gothic elements near to the songs of the album “Karmacode”
RUNNING TIME :3:44
RATING: 8.
6. I Forgive (But I Won’t Forget Your Name) :
An impassioned heavy rock ballad, has a direct and confrontational message in it. begins promisingly enough with moody melancholic chords, but all potential is lost as soon as Ferro’s abhorrent verse comes in; and Scabbia’s chorus yearns to be powerful and moving.Lacuna Coil release a very good video for this great song.
RUNNING TIME :3:56
RATING: 10.
7. Cybersleep :
This is a song arguably unlike anything they’ve ever made before and is quite stunning in delivery. The band have said they wanted to make a sound-track, and nowhere is it more evident than in this track; Cristina’s voice soars and the guitars are immense, somber ballad, with ominous piano and strings in the background providing a hauntingly beautiful ambience to it all.
RUNNING TIME :4:26
RATING: 9.
8. Infection:
So this is a pure rock song  that, like the rest of the album, has a darkness about it. the growls and clear male voice work nice with the female voice.
RUNNING TIME :4:23
RATING: 8,5.
9. I Burn in You :
This track is one mix of the older sound of Lacuna Coil, remind me very much the songs from the albums ‘Unleashed Memories’ and ‘Dark Adrenaline’.We love the band with these albums,so i dont complain to listen the same sound.
RUNNING TIME :4:15
RATING: 9.
10. In the End I Feel Alive :
This song is dark about also  and futuristic, filled  with  enormous keyboards and bass. The duet of Andrea and Cristina is perfect under the kicking drums.
RUNNING TIME :4:21
RATING: 9.

11. “One Cold Day” (Dedicated to deceased ex bandmember Claudio Leo):

This track is dedicated to the band’s original guitarist, Claudio Leo, who died in 2013.
It’s a beautiful ballad, slow and melodic, and showcases Cristina’s vocals wonderfully.  the song is powerful and heart-felt in it’s message.
RUNNING TIME :6:29
RATING: 9.
‘Broken Crown Halo’ is the band’s darkest  cinematic trip . There is something on this album to connect with older sound of the LC albums. But there is  also things that we have not heard before, and probably were not expecting from Lacuna Coil .Of course Lacuna always  have surprises for us in every album.  ‘Broken Crown Halo’ is not a ‘metal’ album, it’s not a ‘rock’ album, it’s a pure ‘Lacuna Coil’ album, and once again they have managed to take their music to a new place. This is Lacuna Coil at their darkest, heaviest, and angriest. After the album ‘Dark Adrenaline we have a dark vision of a near future and  an album with  influences of classic Italian horror movies .Good album but I demand from this band something better!
RATING:8,73/10
