REVIEW OF XANDRIA ALBUM “Sacrificium”

XANDRIA IS….
Marco Heubaum – guitar, keyboards
Gerit Lamm – drums
Philip Restemeier – guitar
Steven Wussow – bass
Dianne van Giersbergen – vocals
1. Sacrificium:
The album opens with the title track 10-minute epic. The orchestration, the male spoken  voice  and the chorus is the perfect intro as any symphonic metal album. And comes    Dianne Van  Giersbergen’s vocals soar up and down through the song and form a fantastic combination with the choir during the chorus. This choir is very impressive ,sound fantastic and with plenty harmony .  Great guitar solos and powerful percussion ,the drums of Gerit  are  bombastic and strikes the perfect balance into all the song! ” Sacrificium” ,is Xandria musical journey in the  symphonic genre, with elements of Power Metal, with Dianne’s voice sounding gorgeous when blended with more modern riffs.

The song begins with power guitars kicks off with some powerful orchestrations before Dianne’s voice comes with chorus to changes to a very symphonic piece. The electric guitar with progressive elements make the song interesting!Great guitar solos from Marco and Philip!

5. The Undiscovered Land:

A gentle piano plus orchestration leads us into some wonderful folk tinged vocals from Dianne. This ballad bring my imagination back to the movie “Lord of the Rings”. The medieval sound is clear here and the spoken voice between th brilliant open range of vocals make a perfect performance!

A symphonic metal number, heavier and darker with female voice dramatic with epic chorus, all work magic on you with a nice mix of symphonic power that rocks along nicely. This a stronger and faster song!

On the main style of the album although  epic in taste as previous numbers with melodies and heavy sound also, with great guitar solo and maniac drums.Good but not something special compared to the rest songs of the album.

8. Come with Me:

A very beautiful melody a  emotion song..The keyboards guide the track give feeling  of sorrow while the guitars provide aggression. Is a very rhythmic Symphonic Metal piece with a chorus full  a storm and Dianne’s voice skills as a soprano.

9. Little Red Relish:

Decent guitar work in the intro that begins to draw you in before a heavy bass and manic drumming kicks in followed by forceful vocals from Dianne, and we are on a melodic Symphonic  Metal ride. A much heavier affair here with a good fast tempo

13The Watcher (Bonus Track):
The bonus track is a summary for the future sound of Xandraia after Manuela Kraller .The band have one more great singer who is soprano but she can sing and in more heavy range. The song is epic good choice as bonus track!
RUNNING TIME :4:43
RATING:10
in conclusion, Sacrificium is quite a grat album which must be listened to from start to finish through ,the album has ballance.  The soprano singing of Dianne van Giersbergen’s is the perfect for Xandria, and is a formidable follow-up to Neverworld’s End (2012).The album clearly highlights all the elements of sound which Xandria fans love.  While this is the case, growth and chemistry will naturally develop with van Giersbergen part of Xandria from this point moving forward making future releases even more eagerly awaited.  Each song is extensive, which shows the band’s dedication and passion for music. Xandria knows their fans, and the solid efforts of Sacrificium confirms the bands place in the symphonic and gothic metal genres

RATING:9.6/10
